All candidates are required by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification to pass a minimum of two tests during the process of obtaining teacher certification. Certain certificates require more tests.
TExES Content Exam
All Region 4 teacher certification candidates must pass the designated state certification content exam. Test permission for all Generalist exams is given after the completion of the English/Language Arts module (approximately nine weeks for online and four weeks for blended) of Pre-Service training. Domestic candidates may choose to take the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) prior to registering for class. Permission for all Single-subject exams is given 15 days after Pre-Service training begins.
TExES EC-12 Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities (PPR)
Approval to take the EC-12 TExES PPR takes place during the internship or clinical teaching assignment, and must be successfully passed to receive a standard teaching certificate.
Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT)
Demonstration of oral proficiency is required for candidates seeking certification in bilingual education.
